Step Forward For Sport
“Since signing up to Work Out For Sport and starting my volunteer placement I have realised how the business skills I’ve developed over the years can really make a difference to a sports club.”
Alan Cunningham, Manager, Deloitte Volunteer
What commitment is required from the volunteers?
Work Out For Sport is all about flexibility. The employer donates, on average, 3.5 hours per month under their community investment policy. The employee is then given the flexibility to use these hours during the normal working day. It is assumed that the volunteers will also commit some of their personal time to the placement.
What can the volunteers do?
- Provide business support to community sports clubs, including business and development planning, financial review including fundraising strategies.
- Coach at after-school clubs, junior sports clubs and developing club-to-school links.
- Provide senior business mentoring/support to governing bodies.

“Obviously there is a work-life balance and there are some things I need to pick up outside of hours, but the fact that Deloitte give us that flexibility to volunteer within the working day really does help.”
Gillian Connal, Manager, Deloitte Volunteer
